Old Places shows us oft-forgotten, yet almost immediately familiar areas in Singapore through the eyes of ordinary people. Prior to the production, members of the public were invited to call in to the radio to recount their significant memories of places in Singapore – places that will soon disappear or be redeveloped.
These personal stories come alive through the callers’ narration and the stunning visuals that capture the nostalgia and hidden beauty of the places. Re-discover Singapore and journey to places like a playground in Toa Payoh, a barbershop at Commonwealth Avenue, Capitol cinema, and an unassuming bakery in Whampoa.
Old Places celebrates personal stories of joy, love or loss, and weaves it into a tapestry of memories amounting to a collective and yet typical story of life in Singapore.
Check out the other films in this series – Old Romances and Old Friends.

Started in 2003 by Objectifs, Shooting Home is an annual programme designed with the belief that ‘home’ is the first step for aspiring photographers to explore their professional careers. Shooting Home brings together a community of mentors (established photographers, visual artists and curators), to create a supportive environment for emerging photographers to develop as professionals.
This publication marks the 10 year anniversary of the programme, where a collection of works by alumni of the Shooting Home programme from 2002 to 2012 is showcased.

The fourth book for TWENTYFIFTEEN, Sean Lee created Two People, an extension of Homework, which won him the 2011 ICON de Martell Cordon Bleu award. Exploring the relationship between his parents and interpreting it through his lens, the black-and-white images depict a surreal view of Sean’s idea of his parents.
The founders of Platform – Tay Kay Chin, Darren Soh, Ernest Goh and Leonard Goh – initiated TWENTYFIFTEEN to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Singapore’s independence. 20 photographers have been chosen to create 15 images each, with a folio published for each photographer in the months leading up to August 9, 2015.

ARTiculate is Ngiap Heng’s second attempt at this series, featuring portraits of people in the arts scene. The subjects in ARTiculate are visual artists, writers, dancers, theatre practitioners, musicians, photographers and animators. This is a varied group of people, and finding meaningful instances of their art to create their portraits has pushed him to expand the way he uses projections in his work.
ARTiculate is Ngiap Heng’s visual poem, dedicated to the wonderful Singaporean artists who so greatly enrich all our lives.

“Our natural environment is both the giver and the gift. But we, the recipients, have to appreciate and conserve it so that it can continue to give us the crucial resources we need to live. To celebrate this fact, here are 15 gift-wrapping paper designs created with various elements from our natural environment. They include insects, butterfly chrysalises and flowers – specimens that either flew into my home, or that I found in my garden or collected in and around Singapore.”

Huiying comes from a family that runs one of the few surviving farms in Singapore. She started to photograph her family as an attempt to delve into a subject that’s commonly taken for granted. By doing so, she discovered that her family was the most extraordinary.
From the introduction of the book, “After 24 years of hard work, the farm is still running and the family is still together. This series of photographs is an exploration of the hopes and dreams that tie us together, and a reflection of where my sense of self, community and tradition comes from.”
