When an ambitious young correctional officer, Aiman, is transferred to the country’s maximum security prison, he catches the attention of seasoned chief executioner Rahim. Aiman’s desire to become the hangman’s apprentice is not only professional but born of an unspeakable urge to reconnect with a past that haunts him.
Apprentice premiered at Cannes Film Festival in 2016 and received critical acclaim. It went on to show at more that 60 international film festivals, won multiple awards and was released in several territories around the world. The film became Singapore’s 2016 entry for the 2016 Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Language Film category.
