It’s All In My HEAD | Etinosa Yvonne

This is an ongoing personal project that explores the coping mechanisms of survivors of terrorism and violent conflict.

In the last twenty years, Nigeria has witnessed an increase in terrorism and violent conflicts. Some of its people have survived and witnessed acts of extreme violence, meted out on them, their loved ones and in some cases, all that they own.

Over the years, these survivors find a way to rebuild and adjust to their new lives. However, many of them never get to talk about their experiences. Thus, the idea of “moving on” can be considered to be a farce as a lot of these survivors go through life burdened with the trauma of the things they had witnessed and all they lost.

I am exploring how these survivors struggle to move on by using layered portraits of the survivors and the things that they do to help them move forward or otherwise.
