This exhibition presents and delves deeper into the frequent custom among performance artists to take photographs of fellow performance artists whilst the latter are performing. Through her unceasing and committed artistic practice, the curator has connected with many local and international artists who make this their custom, although at different levels of intensity.
Two-way Mirror is not merely an occasion to present striking images from performance art, but is an encouragement directed to each artist to reflect on the diverse approaches they have towards photography, and an offering to the public to engage in the discussion. The result charts some possibilities in attempts to grasp the performance beyond sterile and overbearing documentation, and points the viewer to alternative directions in the current research, whilst offering prospects for a more connected and emotional appreciation of this art form that lies at the crucial junction between art and life.
The exhibition will be complemented by artists talks, an evening of performance art, a curator tour and a catalogue.
With the support of Artsfund.
