AS THEY GROW OLDER AND WISER
Chapel Gallery
As They Grow Older and Wiser is a photographic series and installation work by Singaporean artist Ang Song Nian, presented as part of the artist’s participation in the Bangkok University Gallery’s Artist-in-Residence programme in August 2016. At the heart of the exhibition is Everything Can Be Measured (2016). This site-specific work comprises six installations created as a response to the artist’s observation on the methods of control instrumented in ways which potted plants, as well as trees – young and old — are being manipulated to fit into the urban landscape of growing cities. The titular work debuts a series of photographic images in which the artist re-presents the controlled environment of plant nurseries found in the Ongkharak district of Nakhon Nayok in Bangkok.

SUPERHERO ME: WHO IS COMING TO DINNER?
Chapel Gallery
Gatherings are at the heart of this art lab, where plates of art serve up an invitation to create, question and work with others from all walks of life. On our journey towards an inclusive society, we have realised inclusion – very much like cooking – has no fixed formula. It is always in-the-works, driven by a persistent courage and effort to reach out to others different from us. Over the past few months, children from the Cerebral Palsy Alliance School, MINDS Lee Kong Chian Gardens School, AWWA Kindle Garden and neurodiverse multidisciplinary collective, Superhero Me’s regular Saturday group have created artworks that will help transform the Chapel Gallery into a dinner party!

TILL WE MEET AGAIN – WHAT TO KEEP? & MUTE
Lower Gallery
Lau Eng Seng has been documenting Rochor Centre, a nearly 40-years old high-rise mixed-use complex. In 2011, it was announced that Rochor Centre would be demolished to make way for the new North-South Expressway. Here, he shares its “packing up”, during which residents must decide on what to keep and what to throw out. In Mute, Chia Aik Beng shares a personal take on Singapore’s Little Japan (1860s to 1945). With erased buildings and only traces of material evidence, he explores its possible history. Both photographers produced their work as part of the Exactly Foundation residency.
