Workshops in cyanotype printing, floral arrangement and yantra cartography

In conjunction with their exhibition With You Here Between: Defamiliarizations, recipient of the Curator Open Call 2021, tekad kolektif presents three short workshops open to the public, offering insights into how art frees perception around memory and desire.
Register now for these workshops in cyanotype printing, yantra cartography and floral arrangement, presented as part of the exhibition programme. Each workshop will begin with an introduction by the artist on their practice and their works in the show, and its relevance to the workshop activity.
No prior experience is needed, and all required materials will be provided. Per current Covid-19 health and safety measures, each workshop will be limited to 8 participants, so sign up now!

Sat 25 Sep, 12pm to 2.30pm | Objectifs Workshop Space
Recommended for ages 16 and above; discussion will touch on queer identity and the body
Workshop Fee: $50
Join visual artist Ratna Sutara and exhibiting artist Masuri Mazlan for this workshop held on World Cyanotype Day 2021! Participants will be guided through the process of making individual cyanotype prints and also work on a single collaborative artwork, while learning about the history of this rich medium, and how the nature of this printing process immortalises personal relics, family heirlooms, and other trace markers of memory.
Pre-requisites and Requirements: The workshop is designed as a hands-on introduction to contact printing techniques, and prior experience is not necessary. Paper and chemicals will be provided and participants will receive a cyanotype kit to take home along with their completed artworks.
This workshop will take place at Objectifs, and will be conducted in English. As participants will mix chemicals and coat paper with different materials, they are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing they might not mind getting slightly dirty.
About the instructors
Ratna Sutara is a Singaporean artist primarily using photography in her practice, and specialising in darkroom printing and alternative processes.

Workshop Fee: $50
Join artist Amirah Raudhah for a meditative workshop celebrating the art of floral arrangement. Participants will be guided through the process of making individual floral arrangements. Participants are encouraged to follow their intuition in creatively arranging flowers in their own styles, with a vision in mind for how the arrangement will enhance their own or beloved recipient’s space.
Pre-requisites and Requirements: The workshop is designed as a hands-on introduction to floral arrangement, and prior experience is not necessary. Materials will be provided, and each participant will bring home their own completed floral arrangement.
This workshop will take place at Objectifs, and will be conducted in English. As participants will work with flowers, they are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing they might not mind getting slightly dirty.
About the instructor
Amirah Raudhah is a printmaker heavily inspired by floral arrangements her mother makes, specifically for weddings. She expresses the conscious and the subconscious through floral symbolism. Her techniques mainly focus on etching, reflecting the true form of the flowers while simultaneously engraving memories into each print.

Recommended for ages 16 and above; discussion and imagery shown will touch on male and female anatomy, gender and sexuality
Workshop Fee: $25
Learn from exhibiting artist Vimal Kumar about the olden cartographic system of creating yantras, and the elements of yantra design. Participants will be guided in creating their own contemporary yantra based on a location that they choose.
Pre-requisites and Requirements: No prior experience is required. Participants will be provided with paper and markers and will take home their own yantra design.
This workshop will take place at Objectifs, and will be conducted in English.
About the instructor
Vimal Kumar is an exhibiting artist in With You Here Between: Defamiliarizations, with an interest in the visual aspect of storytelling, often delving into narratives of the unseen. His works explore themes related to culture, heritage, spirituality and ecology.
Covid-19 Health & Safety Advisory and Measures
This workshop will be conducted offline at Objectifs (classroom sessions). The following measures will apply:
- Maximum class size of eight participants
- Participants to wear face masks throughout and to be seated at least 1m apart from each other
- Instructors to wear face masks, or face shields are permitted while they are teaching and they must maintain a distance from the participants
- Frequent sanitising of equipment and commonly touched surfaces
- Sign-in / sign-out required via TraceTogether
