This print is from a series of street photography of Singapore from the 50s – 70s by self-taught photographer Mr Hor Kwon Kin (b.1939). Through his lens, scenes of daily life and vanishing trades take on a humanistic quality while embodying the modernist style characteristic of the photographers of that era.
About Mr Hor Kwon Kin
Born in 1939, Mr Hor Kwon Kin is a self-taught photographer who picked up the craft while working as a kitchen helper at a Chinese restaurant in Singapore in the late 50s and through referencing photography books and magazines from Hong Kong.
His deep passion for photography motivated him to hone his skills while working at various restaurants and to join various photographic societies such as The Photographic Society of Singapore (PSS), the Southeast Asian Photographic Society, as well as the Photo-Art Association of Singapore, of which he was an active member. Mr Hor has exhibited with PSS for their annual International Salon exhibition and Southeast Asian biannual exhibition.
