A project by Black Baroque Committee

18 Aug – 30 Sep 2011
Curated by Vertical Submarine

Postcards from Earth is a series of postcards featuring scenes of vivid atrocities from not just history but also our present day-to-day existence.

In this project, Black Baroque Committee attempts to measure our distance and proximity to these selected images of disaster, violence and cruelty. The viewers, positioned as either alienated individuals or aliens, are encouraged to continue their roles as consumers by purchasing and sending them via Red Herring Postal Service (RHPS).

As for those who are silent or left speechless, in front of these postcard-sized tragedies, the reverse of each image is a form consisting of ready-made greetings, requiring the user to only mark off the options that do not apply – a method of mail censorship originating from the First World War.

The RHPS runs from Mon to Fri, 11am to 7pm and Sat 12pm to 6pm at Objectifs Gallery – come by to get your postcards mailed!
