A virtual workshop for media and arts practitioners

3 sessions

Course Description
Media and arts practitioners are increasingly sharing their skills, experiences and narratives via videos on platforms like YouTube and Vimeo — a trend which we have seen increase in the global Covid-19 situation. This allows them to market themselves and their work, and to take control of their narratives and directly reach audiences.

This virtual workshop led by experienced producer, editor and educator Wong Kin Ching is suitable for participants without prior experience in these areas and will be offered in three parts. Participants may sign up for any or all of the modules.

By the end of the workshop, participants who have completed all three modules will have conceptualised, shot and edited a simple video which can be uploaded to their website, social media or video platforms like YouTube and Vimeo.

Module 1: Pre-Production / Mon 8 Jun 2020, 2pm to 5pm
Participants will be introduced to different styles commonly used in creating online content, such as documentary, corporate videos and the personal approach favoured by influencers and YouTubers.

With reference to sample scripts, participants will learn how to structure their content to effectively communicate their message to their intended audience. This session will also cover budgeting.

Module 2: Production / Tues 9 Jun 2020, 2pm to 5pm
Participants will learn about the basic equipment required to get started on shooting their own video content. They will learn best practices to get good quality video and audio, and about different shot sizes and how each can be used effectively. After this session, participants are encouraged to shoot a short piece of video content.

Module 3: Post-Production / Wed 10 Jun 2020, 2pm to 5pm
Participants will use the content they have shot at the end of Module 2, or any other content they have available, and learn how to edit it into a compelling video using DaVinci Resolve 16, a powerful free software that allows for visual effects, motion graphics, colour correction and audio post production in a single application.
