InsideOut: Photos by Migrant Workers in Singapore
In conjunction with the M1 Singapore Fringe Festival 2006
Mar 12, Sunday, 1 to 230pm

No child dreams of becoming a maid or construction worker. But driven by poverty and a lack of opportunities, waves of Asians take on such work every year. InsideOut is a six-month project involving 31 workers from Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines. They learnt the basics of photography and were guided to take photos of their daily lives in Singapore. Through their photos, we hope to learn from their perspectives and spark more interaction between host and migrant communities.

During this talk, the organisers, photographer-instructors and workers will share their experiences and involvement in the InsideOut project. The organisers -- Alvin Tan (The Necessary Stage) and Chan Tse Chueen (Straits Times) -- will talk about bringing such a project to life, while some of the photographers and workers will share with us their perspectives and visual viewpoints.
