Scraps of Memories

Some Recollections in Black & White

May 13 to Jun 5, 2006
Monday to Friday, 11am to 7pm
Saturday, 1 to 5pm
Open to public, free admission

As we journey through life, fleeting glimpses of peace, beauty & honesty speak to us & move us in ways unexpected. You may have seen some of these places or things; we have captured them on film and made them a part of our sub consciousness. Perhaps these images will echo and evoke some of your own half forgotten memories.

We have chosen the black and white craft as our medium of expression and want to share the darkroom experience with visitors to our exhibition. Do watch out for the educational materials that will be on display.

Every picture in the exhibition is created by hand – the process beginning with the capture of an image on the negative.

This exhibition is curated by Chow Chee Yong.

ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHERS

Heng Kiang Khoon
Kiang Khoon has been searching for greater satisfaction in his pictures ever since he had some photos published in 'To Singapore With Love.' The darkroom gives him complete control over the photographic process, and allows him to render his images exactly as visualises.

Jeanette Ng
Jeanette Ng was schooled in zoology then went to work in television; she picked up Final Cut Pro on the side and is trying to go into video editing now. She is pro conservation and efficiency and is always looking out for aesthetically brilliant visuals and sounds.

Ruby Seng
A bibliophile, sometime linguist and writer of overwrought emails, Ruby Seng sees photography as a means to express herself without words. A huge fan of toy cameras, she believes that their blurry, unpredictable and vignetted images truthfully reflect her imperfect and fragmented memories.

About the curator

Chow Chee Yong
Chee Yong brings a wealth of experience as curator for the show, both as a lecturer in photography for many years and as a practicing fine-art photographer. His works have been showcased in solo and group exhibitions in the United States, Japan and Singapore. He is also currently lecturer in the Department of Visual Communications at Temasek Polytechnic’s School of Design. He first met the three photographers as instructor for their Black & White photography workshop at Objectifs, and has continued mentoring them as curator for their first group show.
