No child dreams of becoming a maid or construction worker. But driven by poverty and a lack of opportunities, waves of Asians take on such work every year. InsideOut is a six-month project involving 30 workers from Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines. They learnt the basics of photography and are encouraged to take photos of their daily lives in Singapore. Through their photos, we hope to learn from their perspectives and spark more interaction between host and migrant communities.

Thirteen photographers and photojournalists are involved in the project, among them award winners in international and regional photo competitions, Bryan van der Beek (The Straits Times), How Hwee Young (European Pressphoto Agency), Sim Chi Yin (The New Paper) and Wong Maye-E (Associated Press).
