This December, cherish the loved ones around you as Fast.FWD presents a collection of films that tug at the heartstrings. Gloria Chee’s Smell of Rain is a heartwarming tale of growing up and having the courage to step away from the comfort of one’s childhood to embrace the unpredictability of adulthood. The preceding short film is Anthony Chen’s award-winning Ah Ma, which garnered a Special Mention at the Cannes festival in 2007, in which a family struggles to come to terms with an inevitable family death.

Synopsis:
Smell of Rain, is a poignant story about Xiao Qi (Nathaniel Ho), a lonely young man, trapped in his childhood grief of being abandoned just before a rainstorm. Together with a childhood best friend, Kong Long (Trey Ho), Xiao Qi creates a haven where the rest of the world is kept at bay. The arrival of a girl, Li Er (Leah Low) rudely disrupts the dynamics of this static world and Xiao Qi is forced to confront reality as he struggles to break free from the shackles of his past. In the process, he learns to live by learning to love - but will it be too late? Ending with a surprising twist, Smell of Rain sends a message of courage, hope and fresh beginnings.
Director's Bio:
Gloria has been working in the media industry as a producer/director on many genres across the film industry. Her experience includes being first assistant director to several prolific filmmakers in Singapore namely Jack Neo, Glen Goei, Ong Keng Sen and Lim Suet Yen. Smell of Rain is the result of a personal aim to make her own debut feature film after years of accumulating an all-rounded experience. Synopsis:
Ah Ma is lying in the hospital, her life hanging by a thread. Her family gathers by her deathbed to send her off. Overwhelmed by sadness, they struggle to find their own way of coming to terms with the impending end.
Director's Bio :
Anthony Chen graduated from Ngee Ann Polytechnic's School of Film & Media Studies. Apart from directing in film, Anthony has served as a radio presenter, a freelance movie reviewer and has done work as an actor both on stage and on screen. His graduation film, G-23, which he wrote and directed has gone on to screen at over 25 film festivals around the globe and won awards in Korea, France, Belgium, Malaysia and Singapore. Ah Ma marks his second short film effort.
